Rarities - UNDER CONSTRUCTION

The excitement of trapping moths is not knowing what you'll find in the morning.  There is a particularly thrill of turning over an egg box to see something very striking or unusual.

This page is dedicated to those rarities.  Some are immigrants, that turn up on our shores from the continent using due to particular weather conditions.  Others are simply scarce so trapping one is highly unlikely.  Finally, some are changing their distribution, often moving north as the climate warms.  For example, the White point and Toadflax brocade were very scarce here a few years ago, but are now regular visitors to the garden; in fact, the White point is now the 7th most abundant species with 739 moths caught in 2025!
